Misfired - Law and Loyalty

The movie opens with the first day of headstrong 37-year-old Detective Genesis Mitchell's return to work at the 5th District Morgan City Police Department after the murder of her younger brother Tyree Johns three weeks prior. Before her leave, Genesis raised the eyebrows of her fellow officers, police brass, and members of the community due to (true, but as yet unproven) suspicion that she was involved in dealings with the Russian Mob. In an effort to be tough on crime as part of his mayoral candidacy, Chief Alex Evans is bringing back the so-called "Terror Squad" taskforce, headed by loose cannon Detective Vincenzo Morrow. Morrow has gotten "results" by killing off criminals and keeping the change for himself, and his unit is seen as the police-sanctioned assassination squad that it is - generating high suspect casualties with disproportionately low convictions and seizures. Genesis was assigned to the Terror Squad two years prior, eventually becoming de facto second-in-command. The fallout from the corrupt dealings of the unit come back to bite her as she returns to the force. Meanwhile, Genesis' son, Jacques, is struggling with his own demons, as he attacks a boy from school and beats him unconscious. Genesis is too embroiled in her own mess to fully notice the trouble her son is in. We follow Genesis as she navigates the harsh reality of being a black female cop and a mother, paying the price for the morally questionable decisions she has made to advance in the game. Genesis does whatever it takes to keep her head above water, including popping pills to soothe her nerves. She will stop at nothing to find her brother's killer and deter the official investigation into her extracurricular activities, leaving disaster in her wake if she has to.
