What is The Masters Tournament?
Every April, the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia hosts a field of 90 golfers for The Masters Tournament. The winner of the four-day tournament is presented with the Green Jacket by the previous year’s winner. The total purse for the event is $18 million, which is $3 million more than the 2022 payout and the biggest year-over-year increase in the tournament’s history. The Masters is the first of the four major golf tournaments held each year. According to DraftKings, the odds-on favorites in 2023 are:

- Cameron Smith, the 2022 Open Championship winner

Tiger Woods
The 47-year-old golf phenom confirmed he would play in the 2023 tournament but is considered a long shot to win. The five-time Masters champion won his first Masters in 1997 at 21 years old, the youngest to win, and his fifth 22 years later in 2019 at age 43. Tiger Woods has also won 82 official PGA Tour events throughout his career. Although Woods has been plagued with injury and controversy, he is still a fan favorite.
The Addition of LIV Golfers
Golfers from the LIV Golf circuit, financed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, will tee up alongside PGA Tour golfers for the first time this season. Citing his desire to “honor the tradition of bringing together a preeminent field of golfers,” Masters Tournament Chairman Fred Ridley extended invitations to 17 LIV golfers, including Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson.
A Picturesque Course and Clear Skies
The play continues rain or shine, except in unusually heavy rain, but history shows an average high of 77 degrees and just eight times where there has been a delay in play. Plush, green grass and a colorful array of flowers greet spectators and golfers at every hole. Each hole bears the name of the representative flora, such as the pink dogwood at hole 2, the magnolia at hole 5, and the aptly named 13th hole, “Azalea,” where more than 1,500 azalea bushes adorn the hillside.
2023 Masters Tournament Results and Updates
This year’s tournament did not disappoint when it came to exciting events. Spanish golfer Jon Rahm took the top prize, including the coveted green jacket, with his 12 under win. Rahm walked away with nearly $3.25 million in winnings, over $600,000 more than 2022’s champion. He edged out Brooks Koepka, who was the hands-down favorite with sole possession of the lead going into the final round. Koepka tied with Phil Mickelson at 8 under to take second with Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, and Russell Henley tying for fourth at 7 under.
